Camponotus Cruentatus Ants
Camponotus cruentatus is one of the biggest and largest ants that are found in Europe. They are an active species of ants which have a coloration that is very much striking. A colony which is just starting off might be a bit inactive at first until the time the colony develops workers who are about ten. Camponotus cruentatus colonies which are larger are very much active and might even provide many entertainments to their owners.
The workers might reach a size that is substantial, of up to 14mm in their length. Worker ants can come in a wide range including major workers. The ones called Minor workers are the workers who are smaller. Futhermore, the species of ant can survive at room temperature. Furthermore, additional heating may help colony growth. The nest should ideally have both a moist and dry area. Furthermore, this species of ant in the wild will only have one Queen in each and every colony.
The Camponotus cruentatus species may both reside indoors and outdoors in decaying, moist or woods that are hollow, which are most common in forest environments. Camponotus cruentatus species cut into the grain of the wood so as to provide ways of passage in the nest from section to section. Cruentatus species may infest certain house parts like roof eaves, under windows, porches, and decks, because these areas are very much vulnerable to moisture. Camponotus cruentatus can also construct underground systems of tunneling that are extensive. These systems at most times lead to an end at maybe a food source, often colonies of aphids, where these ants feed on the honeydew which they extract from the aphids. These systems of tunneling also exist in trees more often. The colonies include a central typical arent’ colony which is supplemented and surrounded by satellite colonies that are smaller.
This ant eats dead insects and alive insects as a food source. Foods that are common to the Camponotus cruentatus include extrafloral nectar which comes from the plants, insect parts, honeydew that is produced from aphids. Camponotus Cruentatus will also eat liquids that are sugary like syrup, honey or juices. Camponotus cruentatus species may increase the aphid’s survivability when they do tend them. The species of ant tend many species of aphids but may even express some preferences that are specific. When Camponotus cruentatus species forage, they usually consume and collect insects that are dead. Some of the species less commonly collect insects that are still alive. The Camponotus cruentatus species can forage in both small or large groups, although often they opt to do the foraging individually. Their main sources of food include carbohydrates and proteins.
The habit of the Ant Species
The Camponotus cruentatus species work in building nests that can house many eggs in environments that usually have high humidity because of their sensitivity of humidity that is environmental. The first type of colony nest knows as a primary nest. Furthermore, the primary nest will develop and become bigger over time. The Camponotus cruentatus species have the phenomenon of social immunity.
